Hitchin Thespians offers a unique
opportunity to perform in a range of shows and
concerts. Our membership is friendly, our
performance standards are high, and our repertoire
is varied. Unusually for an amateur operatic
society, we perform classical concerts as well as
shows. In addition, we own our rehearsal and
performing venue, Woodside Hall, and have a thriving
youth section, Young Thespians, for ages 8-16.
Musical Theatre and Concerts
Whatever your musical tastes or
skills, there will be a Hitchin Thespians production
to match. We take on everything from the well-loved
classics (Oliver!) through the modern (Made
in Dagenham) to recent blockbusters (Sister
Act). Whether you yearn to display your fancy
footwork in a toe-tapping dance show (Anything
Goes), give your vocal chords a workout (HMS
Pinafore; Fauré’s Requiem) or lead the audience
in a rousing version of Ding Dong Merrily (pretty
much every Christmas since 1991), we have
something you'll enjoy. You can find out more by

The unique set-up of Hitchin
Thespians allows members to experience an unrivalled
variety of music. Some members choose to participate
in all performances, others prefer to stick with one
style, but once you are a vocal member the choice is
yours and you will have the opportunity to
potentially be part of all our concerts and shows.
On-stage or off-stage – or better
We have various productions a
year currently comprising a Spring show, a Summer
concert, and the ever-popular Christmas Special.
Members are encouraged to get involved with
everything we do - when you're not on-stage there
are plenty of activities off-stage to keep you busy.
Whether you are a whizz on the lighting board, want
to help out in wardrobe or just enjoy painting
scenery, we want to hear from you!
Sounds great – what next?

hearing from you!
(By the way, did we mention the
fact that we frequently win awards from our local
NODA group, have commissioned our own pieces, have
performed world premieres, have taken a show to the
Edinburgh Fringe Festival and host fund-raising
concerts organised by our members?).
Our youth group is
fairly new. It has quickly proved to be another very
successful feature of Thespians. Please take a look at their page.
concerts and shows are all social events in
themselves. In addition to that a member of
Thespians can also attend the numerous social events
through the year - quiz nights, barbeques, treasure
hunts, barn dances… to name but a few.
Despite being very
busy with Thespian events alone our rehearsal venue,
Woodside Hall, is available for bookings. There are
a number of clubs and societies that meet in our
hall on a regular basis. In addition the hall can be
hired for parties and weddings. We regret that the
hall is not available for 18th birthday parties.
