HMS Pinafore
In Concert

21st - 23rd September 2017
Woodside Hall, Hitchin

Musical Director & Director - Charlie Wakely
Assistant Director - John Cleverley
Accompanist - John Edwards

This September, set sail with Hitchin Thespians as we present a semi-staged production of Gilbert & Sullivanís comic operetta H.M.S. Pinafore; or, The Lass That Loved A Sailor. Gilbert & Sullivan takes a tale of forbidden love in the British Navy and turns it into a satire on rank and status, with true love joyfully conquering all. The H.M.S. Pinafore is overrun with sisters, cousins and aunts as Sir Joseph Porter KCB comes to press his suit with Josephine, the Captainís daughter; but Josephine loves crew member Ralph Rackstraw, a lowly British tar! Set in a world where the rich gain power through wealth, not experience, and vilest sea dog is ignored despite speaking the truth, Pinafore remains just as funny and relevant today as it was when it was written. So give three cheers and one cheer more, and join us aboard H.M.S. Pinafore!
